The Used 03/05/2012
_ A band that’s been around for just over a decade, The Used plan to release their 5th studio album at the end of March. To celebrate the new CD as well as the band’s liberation from Warner Music Group, we’ve decided to feature them for the month of March. Marching forward (I stopped myself from typing the word boldly in there) with their new Anger Music Group and partnering with Hopeless Records, I think we can expect more than ever from this band. The Used is a band that plays what they want and they don’t give a fuck, which seemed to be a point of contention between them and WMG. I’m honestly excited to hear the new album and anything else this band comes out with. Add Comment Carson 03/05/2012
_ Picking a featured band this month was hard, I waded through a lot of fantastic (and not so fantastic) unsigned bands before I thought of this one. I heard them a few months band and knew almost right away I wanted to feature them at some point. From Charlotte, North Caroline is Alternative rock band Carson. This 5 piece band formed in 2009 and released their first EP in 2011 with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, Alesana). I kind of feel like I’m on a streak of featuring bands with female vocals, I can’t help it though, a lot of these chicks fucking rock and if you listen to Carson you’ll see what I mean. It’s not just the vocals though, the music is all around tight. Dryseason 03/05/2012
_ Formed in 2011, Dryseason has made a name for themselves locally in Oregon around the West Coast. In 2009 they released a CD, received lots of radio air play, and won Southern Oregon Last Band Standing. The band went on hiatus in early 2011 after the tragic death of their guitarist Jesse Maurer, who passed away after several days in critical condition following a car accident. Jesse’s death brought a lot of local musicians together for fundraising shows and grieving. It was a good look at how much this band means to the Southern Oregon music scene. In recent months, Dryseason has gotten back together and started playing shows again. They’re garnering new fans and reuniting old ones, Dryseason is definitely a band I think you need to check out, and that’s why we’re featuring them for the month of January. Tonight Alive 03/05/2012
_ Coming out of Australia is female fronted rock band Tonight Alive. About to release their new CD (In the US, it’s already been released in AU) these guys, and gal, are on the rise and we’re excited to feature them. Tonight Alive is a fantastic example of GOOD female fronted rock bands. So many rock bands fronted by women have girly, sugar-pop vocals and they have the audacity to call it rock. Jenna McDougall has a fantastic voice, perfectly suited for fronting a rock band. While the band is currently touring Europe, they should be touring the US in 2012, so keep an eye out, and definitely check out their CD ‘What Are you Afraid Of?’ which will be available at Hot Topic stores near you (and FYE/Sam Goody I presume). Simple Plan 03/05/2012
_ For the month of December we decided just to feature one band. For us, December is special because this month celebrates Duzzitrock’s one year anniversary. On top of that, it’s a huge holiday season, Christmas, Kwanza, Hanukah, etc… and this season is known for giving, receiving, and helping other people. This is what we took in to account when we chose our featured artist this month. We’d like to give a special thanks to Simple Plan for all they’ve done for others. A band formed in 1999, these guys have dedicated a lot of time not only to their pop/punk, rock sound, but have also donated a lot of their money to charities. In 2005 they announced the formation of the Simple Plan Foundation. The foundation runs not only off of donations from individuals, but from band efforts. Many venues they play at agree to donate a percentage of ticket sales to the foundation, fundraising, and benefit shows. All proceeds for their song “Save You” are given to cancer charities. The band has also spent personal time helping people, both through the Make A Wish Foundation, and visiting kids and teens in hospitals while on tour. Since their formation they’ve released four full length albums, gaining them fans from all over the world. These albums are full of songs that mean something, “Save You” is about cancer, “Crazy” is about all the people in the world that could help people but instead are just bringing others down, whether it be how people look, or the rich not doing anything to help the poor, “Perfect” is a song that got me through middle school and I know it’s helped others. While these guys do have lots of songs full of fun lyrics and beats, they’ve also got a ton of songs with meaning. Once again, I’d like to thank Simple Plan for all they’ve done for other people. These guys are great people and great musicians, and that’s why we’re featuring them for December. Vampires Everywhere 10/02/2011
What better band is there to be featured in October then Vampires Everywhere!? To be honest, I don’t know, but I planned on featuring these guys and October seemed like a good fit for this group of vampires. Formed in 2009, these guys took their name from Vampires Everywhere!, the comic book in the movie The Lost Boys. While this band might seem rather new, it wasn’t long before they were noticed by record companies and soon they signed with Century Media. The band was formed by Michael Vampire, a self-proclaimed modern day vampire. Vampires Everywhere! combines different types of music including rock, screamo, hardcore, and even dance. They’ve got distinctive vocals and a dark look, fitting of vampires. These guys are quickly making a name for themselves in the music world and if you haven’t heard of them it won’t be long until you do. I hope you enjoy our October band, Happy Halloween everyone! Scream the Dream 10/02/2011
With fast, complex guitar riffs, and a horrible acronym, our October featured unsigned band is Scream the Dream. This 5 piece metal band from Rancho Cucamonga, CA has only been around since 2010 but they’re working hard and making a name for themselves. With a quickly growing fan base these guys have shared the stage with Black Veil Brides, Vampires Everywhere! (Yay for featured band crossovers), Get Scared, Modern Day Escape and More. Scream the Dream is working hard and producing good music, if you haven’t heard of them, you have now. These guys have a great look and a great sound, check them out online or if you’re in their area, go to a show. Support unsigned bands! Nick Taylor 09/30/2011
You know how sometimes you come across people that are just meant to be doing music? From what I’ve seen and heard, this is one of those people. Back when I featured the band Elenora, I met their drummer Nick Taylor. Now, it turns out Nick is more than just the drummer of a band, he’s also got his own side project going. He sent me his “Nonverbal Vocalizations,” or “The Iceberg” EP so I could get a feel about what his music’s about. Now, the music itself seems solid. Though it is a lot softer and slower than his other band, definitely something different. There are a lot of things going on at once though, a lot of noises that almost sound like they’re competing for your attention, occasionally colliding in a way that you just can’t tell what’s going on. One of the downsides is the recording quality. On one hand you can’t expect some amazing quality from something that’s not studio recorded but on the other it could do for the sounds to be edited a bit. Like I said it seems like all the instruments are competing to be the thing you hear, often times nearly drowning out the vocals. There are even a few times when the vocals join the mix of trying to compete for the attention. The vocals themselves need to be worked on, I wouldn’t call this kid a singer, but at least he’s got the passion for it. More than anything I think it just needs to be polished up, but it is good. I plan to continue following this kid’s music, and I think you should check him out. He’s definitely got the determination and I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of him in the future. We Are Promise 09/01/2011
Hitting the west coast hard with San Jose, CA as their base, We Are Promise is an awesome post-hardcore band. With a lineup consisting of 6 members, 2 of which being singers, they certainly carry a unique sound. The vocals themselves are definitely different than many bands I’ve heard under this genre. They garnered a lot of local attention with the release of their first single Friend and have since released an EP. These guys are getting big and doing it fast, I don’t think it’ll be much longer before you start hearing these guys on the east coast. Bands with this kind of talent don’t stay unnoticed for long, that’s why these guys are being featured. Check them out on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/#!/WeArePromise And pick up their EP on iTunes, Support struggling bands: That's Outrageous 09/01/2011
A band with more diversity than many others I hear these days, That’s Outrageous is a very talented band from Poughkeepsie, NY. With sounds ranging from metal to pop, electro and dub to rap, they blend many different sounds into one great sound. With only one release under their belt, people are now understanding why That’s Outrageous is such a big deal. Not only are these guys getting more and more fans, but the ones they do have are crazy and loyal, and if the bands online activity is anything to go by you can tell why. The band replies to every post on their facebook wall and they’re probably just as dedicated to fans in real life. So between the bands dedication to their amazing music and dedication to their fans, I can’t wait to see where this band goes! | ArchivesMarch 2012 CategoriesAll |
