Skold - Anomie 15/04/2011
Former Marilyn Manson member and multi-instrumentalist Tim Skold is set to release his first solo album in 15 years on May 10. As a solo artist he released his first album in 1996, it was a self titled album. In 2009 he released 3 new singles, an almost teaser for what was to come. Now Tim Skold has come full circle, coming back hard with his second full length album, Anomie. If you’re into that industrial goth rock sound then this record is definitely for you. (This Is My) Elephant opens the CD, and it’s a great song to open it with, not only because it’s one of my favorite songs on the CD, but because it’s angry, and dark, and is a good introduction for what’s to come with the rest of the CD. The second track is Suck and it’s the first single on the CD. It has a great beat and a great sound, but the lyrics have a bit to be desired. The line “Down on your knees, suck my rock” isn’t even clever word play. Besides the “Suck my rock” bits in the song it is actually a very good song, very catchy and at many points it IS lyrically strong. This album feels like Tim Skold has been held back in the past by joining those other bands. As good or bad as any of those bands might be, his solo album is darkly genius. From Black Out, The Hunger, and Polka Dot Dress, this album is full of dark guitar parts, keyboards, and powerful bass. One song that has a bit of a fast beat is called Tonight. This song has the definite feel of being a single. The reason I feel this song could be a single is just how well it’s put together and how great it sounds. It has that sound that feels like if there are people out there that haven’t heard Skold, then this is the perfect song to make them fans. Of all the songs on the album this is the one I’m singing to, even hours later. I would also just like to say that this music is pretty different from other stuff I’ve put on this site and it might only appeal to a select few, but it’s a great CD, Skold is a great artist. I hope he continues to make solo stuff. I personally am glad to hear that there is still music like this being made, even though it’s not mainstream, it still sounds amazing.
